Everyone needs compassion
A love that’s never failing
Let mercy fall on meEveryone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations
He stood with heart abandoned and arms wide open. He sung a song in belief, with passion layered with conviction. But this wasn’t a random guy worshipping freely in church.
I knew him. I knew his story. I knew about his incurable cancer. I knew his familial loss. I knew there were painful pieces of his heart covered deep in the depths of his soul only known by his Father.
Savior
He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save
Forever Author of Salvation, He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave.
After church and over lunch, I shared with him what I saw. While I complain about trivial things in the midst of life, I watch a man with arms opened wide in reckless abandon, trusting a God who is mighty to save… even in the midst of pain. I could have heard a sermon on having faith in a God who is Mighty To Save, but nothing spoke louder than watching you worship. Your faith was a sermon to me.
He looked slightly taken back. That song was less of a personal anthem in his own life and more of a special memory to him. While serving overseas in an Thai orphanage full of children, he discovered their stories of abandonment, abuse, neglect, and hunger. He was moved by their stories and moved by their lives.
During their daily chapel time, he would participate in their worship time despite not knowing any of the songs or lyrics as they flashed on the screen in Thai characters. But the following day he was asked to help lead worship from the front of the small sanctuary. Another Thai worship song came and went as he jovially tried to join in with worship. But something changed. He recognized a song. He recognized the melody. It was Mighty To Save.
He watched impoverished orphans who were abandoned, abused, and neglected now in the safety of a shelter singing with hearts abandoned and arms opened wide. They sung the song in belief, with passion layered with conviction.
He knew them. He knew their story. He knew there were painful pieces of their hearts covered deep in the depths of their soul only known by their Father.
When he sings that song, he thinks of them. When I sing that song, I think of him. And as we do, we are reminded that in every season, in every pain, in every failure, in every surrender, our God is truly Mighty To Save.
So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrenderSavior
He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save, He is mighty to save
Forever Author of Salvation, He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave.

Beautifully written.
I came to your blog today hoping to find something to help a heart slowly healing for heartbreak. I found that and so much more in this story. I had tears in my eyes as I read about the Thai children because as I read, I am sitting in the hut I love in at an orphanage in Thailand. Mighty to Save is a favorite song among the children and staff here. I have been here 5 months and only have 11 days remaining. I too will remember sweet Thai children and the faithfulness of God each time I hear this song from now on. Thank you so much for sharing.
WHAT?!?!?!?! I seriously and BLOWN away. Just amazed. Thank you for your comment. It means more to me than you’ll ever know.
I know the man you are talking about…one of my best friends..and I know the God you are talking about…my “forever friend”. Thank you for bringing his story to your blog. My friend’s journey and his stories inspire many of us.
As a person who often is too afraid to become recklessly abandoned in the sight of God..This is very encouraging. It goes to show just how much fellowship can teach you, and how important it is in our walks. Someday I hope to be fearless in worship. I want to be fearless in living for God, because…nothing can pluck us from His hand or reverse His work. Isaiah 43:13. <3
