After researching the holiday two years ago, I was highly deflated to know that Valentine’s has been hijacked, over-marketed, and panders to the emotions of females everywhere.
Buuuuuuut roses are still red and violets are still blue, I still care and so do you. π
Married, single, divorced, or widowed, what are you doing for valentine’s day?
*Side note: If you’re single and bitter, own it. Nothing is worse to your psyche than acting like you don’t care. You do. Own it.
Ok I'll be the first… I'm single and tonight I am going to dinner with my best friend (and her beautiful 8 month old daughter) – who's husband is working tonight – along with a few of our other friends who are single. This is the best way to spend Valentine's Day for me because I'll be with people I love. π
Yeah!!! I love it π Have a blast!
Thanks! It was a great time… It only ended up being two of us but we still had a good time and we had a great conversation about God and just life. It was good to catch up. :o)
Hope you and your husband had a good Valentine's Day!
We don't go out for dinner often, so we like Valentine's Day as good excuse to do so! Usually a small gift and some chocolates are also involved, and maybe a flower. Fairly traditional, but it gives us a day to be intentional about acknowledging our relationship. Ok, and we both like presents, dressing up a bit, and being festive, no matter what the occasion (or how commercially contrived it may be)…
I am usually giddy with joy over Valentine's Day ~ whether I am in a relationship or not ~ but today will not be one of those times. I had a date with a guy on Saturday night who I have had a crush on for about two years (and he on me.) But due to nervousness & stupidity, I behaved badly on the date and now I am terrified that I have blown my chance with him and he thinks that I am someone who I am not. I voiced these concerns to him and he tells me that it is nothing to worry, everything is fine, blah blah. And I am trying to believe him…But the knot in my stomach will not go away. I've prayed about it and asked God to forgive me….But I am having a harder time forgiving myself. Especially if I ruined my chances with a super fantastic guy. π
So there we go Bianca….I am owning it. And it sucks.
Praying for you sister! It happens to all of us
Single. Went to Moroccan dinner with a friend on Friday. Bought some creamy-pink flowers and made a beautiful arrangement for the weekend. Nothing is planned for tonight but I do have a difficult time concentrating at work. Wearing a red and purple plastic chunky necklace:) Oh…the sunrise was gorgeous and I did feel special:)
Maybe, just maybe, I will try baking some mini cupcakes for the first time in mylife:). Or will go to zumba for the first time after the long winter break from exercise.
My valentine is my best friends little girl. I get to babysit the little one while her mom and dad are out for the evening. A night full of macaroni and cheese and dora the explorer. It can't get much better. π
umm…13 years ago my friends took my me and my husband to vegas. We stood in line for four hours (2 am to 6 am) to get our marriage license so we could get married..yes i was not that smart and didn't realize there would be a bizmillion people doing the same…after a two hour nap we married in some chapel and didn't even have enough money to celebrate…but i will remember that day forever…yes, not so practical, and definitely not the right time (we had serious issues)…but i am so blessed to say that we are still here..loving eachother…with years of fighting for our marriage almost the whole way (and still growing and learning)…we won't do much tonite..but we are hopefully going to the LA kings game at the end of the month:)
Christy, tomorrow is our anniversary and we did the exact same thing. We were unable to get a marriage license on the 14th becasue a bazillion people were in line so we waited to the next day. We married, no rings, no wedding dress.. it wasn’t at all waht I wanted but oh well… I am blessed though, tremendously!!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY GIRL!!!
Hahahahaha! I love your stories!!! Both of you. Happy anniversary, happy valentines day, oh happy day!

I'm babysitting for some friends who have 4 kids. Figured they needed a date more than I needed to go out and listen to girl's complain about being single. I miss you. I love you. I can't wait to see you soon!
In the single world of Becky: Today I started out with a wonderful breakfast provided by a local church… a heart shaped Krispy Kreme doughnut. And tonight I will be going on a "fun run" with the running group I train with! Nothing like a good 4 mile run with friends to keep me busy and my mind off of me for the evening! π (yeah, I am owning the not so much liking being single at the moment!)
Is it possible to be single and geniunely not bothered about valentine's day?!
Yes! That's me! π
I own my unbotheredness. π
Good! Thank you! Otherwise it's just more proof that I don't have a heart!
Absolutely! I forgot today was Valentines day until I heard it on the radio.
I am so with you. It took me a while to realize why my older, well-intended coworkers kept asking me what I was doing this evening and why they looked so disappointed at my response… "well it's Monday, so I'm planning to go to the gym before choir". I finally clued in when I started my regular news and blog reading for the day and saw the hearts everywhere!

I am married. We are not doing anything tonight because prices get hijacked and really…it's on Monday! Anyway, I already received my Valentine's Day gift on Saturday! Yah I got a vase with a red and white carnation that my husband bought off of the little lady at work. He said she is always selling stuff and felt bad that he never buys anything from her. Whoop-di-doo. Ok, it's still thoughtful…And I lie, it had a rose in it too…happy valentine's day.
Single & going to a College & Career event for my church tonight. The majority of the college-age people at my church are not dating, so our loving leaders decided to have a potluck for us tonight! Gonna be a good night!
I am a single girl and I am going to visit my niece and give her a Valentine's Day gift of a singing teapot π It's her first Valentines Day and that makes this day worth celebrating. This is the first year of viewing Valentines day as a day to celebrate all kinds of love and not just romantic love….I am just rejoicing in all things love.
This is awesome! For as long as I can remember, I've always received valentines from my parents. In Spanish it's the day of love and friendship, so I've always seen Love Day as a celebration of all kinds of love. Glad you're doing the same! Enjoy teatime!
I got dumped two weeks ago and last weekend he said some really crappy things to me.
Today, I’m wearing a dress and awesome boots… to class. I’m thankful that I have a wonderful Mom who loves me to pieces. I’m going to listen to Your Love Never Fails by Chris Quilala and the Jesus Culture band so that I don’t forget how lasting God’s love is. I’m going home to take a nap during my 3 hour break and out to eat Mexican food and have a margarita this evening. I’m going to New York and Co because they sent me a text promo for $50 off of a $100 purchase. Then I’m going to go home and finish the amazing book I’m having a blast reading (A Billion Reasons Why by Kristin Billerbeck).
I’m loving myself today, and even though I should be bitter and I really wish I was getting 18 red roses like I got last year…I’m going to celebrate that I will have romantic love someday. Not today, but I do have a full life anyway.
Kayla you got it all right! Except for the part where you think you "should be bitter." You rock them boots and have a blast and NY&Co. I love that store!
We will be home with our babies. To celebrate Valentine’s day I got his truck washed and cleaned. He reassembled the stroller for me because I want to start walking with the babies. He also took me to dinner to EAT FISH! He hates fish but loves me so much, that he is willing to bare the stench… now if only I could let him eat pickles.. I can’t stand the smell, makes me gag.
My husband is more practical than romantic and I know who I married so I don’t expect the “romance” of Valentine’s day.. I once made him a candle light dinner (me trying to be romantic) and he thanked me for “saving energy”.. lol, that’s my hubby.. practical π
Cracking up!
I have a church board meeting.
Which I suppose is good.
Since Javi is still in Kuwait and quite frankly, Im a little depressed about it. It's our first and last Valentine's day engaged and we aren't together. Good news is next year we'll be married.
So board meeting it is..
I'm single and have a work meeting tonight. I'm kind of outraged on behalf of the non-singles. Who schedules a meeting at 6:30pm on Valentine's Day???
PS – this is one of the few years that I've been positive and not Debbie Downer on Valentine's Day!
I’m happily enjoying my singleness (I’m only 19! Overly time!) with two girlfriends tonight and watching a chick flick π
My Valentine's Day happened on Saturday and Sunday. My boyfriend and I attend different colleges, so we can't do anything tonight. It was still special, though! He brought me flowers – a pink Gerber daisy and a few roses – and chocolate and a pop-out reflector for taking portraits. We went ice skating with another couple, then came back to my apartment, cooked dinner, and watched The Little Mermaid (because I'd never seen it…*shame*). On Sunday we went to church, ate at the school's cafeteria (so romantic, hehe), played games with friends, and watched another movie. Also on Sunday, we had a great heart-to-heart…discussion…about the next steps in this relationship. It was good, and ended with our first kiss (not on the lips, not yet, but even so I was floating π ). Today I'm doing homework and mentoring one of the underclassmen athletic training majors. And doing more homework. And I'm okay with that.

After spending the last 2 Valentine's days alone, I will be spending tonight with my (also single) friend Lauren. We are having SMART popcorn and chic flic movie night with hopefully some Just Dance action and a bit of chocolate! I don't have a romantic Valentine this year, but I did get a card yesterday from a man that I love (and it wasn't my dad!!!!).
*keeping my fingers crossed*
Whaaaaat?! You have GOT to share the details!!
Well… my college sweetheart and I decided to start dating again after 2 years apart.
That is the Reader's Digest.

I am married and not doing anything special for Valentine's Day. I spent many years being bitter watching co-workers receive flowers and other gifts at work while my husband of 15 years + wouldn't even mumble the words "happy valentine's day" to me. Aarrrgh!!! I wish I could have accepted the fact that I married a man who just didn't know how much it meant to me at the time, instead of being miserable about it!
Sometimes men are clueless but I don't think it's that they don't love us rather they don't know like you said how much it means to us.
Instead of being bitter this Valentine's Day and spending money on buying myself chocolate and wine, I decided to do something different. I finally sponsored a child through Compassion! So now I have a Valentine – a beautiful six year old from India. Best Valentine's Day ever.
My husband treated me to a Valentines Day Card a week ago and sweetly noted "With You: Every Day is Valentines Day!". SO true with him in my life. After waking up to two sets of flowers, some chocolates and another card, he continued to bless me with the word of encouragement he posted on his blog today. He has to lead a Homegroup tonight, so a romantic lunch is what we will enjoy together. Thank You Lord, for the man you have blessed me with!
You're too funny! I love reading this list and seeing what people are (and not) doing today! We don't usually do anything as a couple, but today my kids have no school so we are heading to the arboretum at my husband's work to plan a picnic, complete with hanging hearts, streamers, banners from branches and tea lights in canning jars! Love! Hopefully it won't be too cold out!
It’s just another Monday.. It’s just another Monday.. It’s just another Monday…… It’s just another LOUSY Monday..
Guess I’m the only bitter one here, lol..
I’m spending this MONDAY at my bootcamp class, then after, hanging out with one of my best friends (who is also single).. We’re going to eat, watch a movie or two, and end the night with hitting a heart shaped piΓ±ata with pictures of our exes on them.. Okay, I’m joking about the whole piΓ±ata thing, but we did talk about it last night and thought it was a funny idea π
Happy Valentine’s Day to all!!
<3 Jae
Today could end up bitter and sweet. It WILL end up sweet because I get the keys to the house I'm buying. But it could end up bitter because the guy that I've been dating for a few months has decided that today we need to have a talk about the direction we're going and if this is working out or not. I know I'm not perfect and have been holding back from fulling investing myself in the relationship, mostly due to hurt past relationships and I'm protecting myself. But I also know that because of this I could be destroying/ruining what could be between us, and I really do like this guy and I don't want it to end, but it's not my call… I pray for God's will in the situation and in the conversation tonight. If you could please pray too I'd greatly appreciate it.
I will keep you in my prayers Courtney for strength to get through the conversation and for the strength to deal with the outcome. We can do all things through God who strengthens us.
Oh my goodness! Courtney, don't let this steal your joy. But yes, I PROMISE you I will be praying. Please let me know what happens. Not because I'm nosey, but because I care. bianca@inthenameoflove.org
xoxo
I found here something new and interesting. Thanks
I'm single, but even as a kid I didn't love Valentine's day. It always just seemed so . . . forced. However, I did go out to dinner Friday night with a great friend (but really just because that was the first time in 3 weeks our schedules matched), I'm going to Bible Study tonight (we're studying Covenant…SOOO good!), and I was surprised to get a sweet card from my Dad this morning!
I completely agree with Cindy. Don't let it steal your joy. If it makes you feel better, I TOTALLY botched a date with this guy I really liked and he ended up marrying me. If he's the one for you, he won't care if you're a dork!
Bianca…I screwed up really bad. I mean REALLY bad. Pretty much take a page out of the "Things Never To Do on a First Date" book and I hit them all. π The thing is, I have changed so much in the last year….Matured. Grown in my relationship in Christ. And then *POOF* I morphed back into the old me in a matter of hours. I am just beating myself up for being so stupid.
Love is not really about me, its about others first, you think I would know that by now but hard to apply sometimes.
Today is my older brother's birthday. I called him this morning and he said he is at home sick, with a fever. Poor guy! Growing up, Valentine's Day was always "my brother's birthday" in my mind, so I didn't really get too sad if I was single. Today, my boyfriend and I are both working since it's Monday, so we already had a mini-celebration on Saturday, enjoying the San Francisco sun and a nice dinner.
I'm single, and honestly, I'm fine with it. Most of my friends are married or in relationships. I could either let that be really awkward and make me bitter and wallow in self-pity or I could just say 'whatever!' I've got people who love me. Who know I'd rather have a balloon than a rose and a vintage chair rather than a diamond encrusted necklace.
My Daddy is still my valentines and I'm proud of it. I'm not gonna settle on some jerk because I'm lonely.
Like you said, I'm gonna own it!
Its just another Monday.. Its just another Monday.. Its just another Monday.. Its just another LOUSY Monday!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all!
single and semi-bitter… going to make myself dinner and pack for a trip to see my folks…
I like reading your blog, but I've never commented before. I'm single. Not bitter….but praying for the right guy to come along. π I'm celebrating Valentines Day by babysitting my adorable niece while my bro and his wife go out tonight! And btw, I can't complain, because my sweet Daddy has done alot to make me feel special this V-day…..a date….flowers and a card!
Married-almost 10 years. I'll be cooking supper for the hubs & our 2 precious children here at home & then we'll all be exchanging our Valentines to each other. Very low key, just the way I like it, not a huge fan of this day.
This is probably going to sound horrible but I'm still riding the wave of the anniversary gift I got Karen. I know, I know, I can already hear all the gals out there spewing comments of disdain. For the record though it was a pretty epic anniversary gift, I was even lucky enough to get your sister to help out π With that said, tonight I am taking my wife to a financial peace class at our church. C'mon what says romantic more than being debt free!
My wife and I kind of celebrated Vday on Saturday by going to the movies. We saw Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It" and liked it a lot. Not your typical Sandler movie.
I used to hate Vday, but now as a married man I love it. http://wp.me/p1fZBZ-R
Lunch and thrift store date with my husband and our new little 4 week old valentine!
I spent the Morning with my Daddy, Gonna spend the afternoon with My Hubbie, my boyfriend for life, then at 5 pm, I will leave and go to school. To me, Valentines Day is not just on the 14th of February, Its the other 364 days of the year when we express just how much we love and appreciate someone. Be it cooking breakfast (thanks Pops!) or doing the dishes (Thanks Allyson) receiving calls at 6 am (Thanks Ashley) numerous text messages from family and friends! and the ever popular 5 am kiss from my BFF! I'll see you tonight! (No roses please!)
I was welcomed to the office this morning with "Happy Singles Awareness Day!" I laughed it off but thought "really? do you have to point it out?" I have to say that I am suprisingly not bitter though. I love LOVE and know that one day I will be spending this day with my HOT HOT hubby (he is out there somewhere!). So, more than anything, I find myself excited for what's up ahead, in the future, what God has planned. I can't wait!
Tonight I will be going to bootcamp to work my booty off then over to my good friend and photographer extrodinaire, Holli True's house to edit photo's. I have to say I wouldn't change anything:) It's going to be a great day!
I celebrated Vday on friday.. I made a romantic dinner with all of my hunnys fav food… steak …shrimp…mash potatoes and garlic bread with a big side of german chocolate cake… celebrate early bc i had to study all weekend and tonite i have school and lots to study for a test manana… hunny has yet to surprise me with something… but if he doesnt it's fine… he shows me this love all year round! =D
Ok, Did not expect it from myself, but I really could not concentrate today. It is either a date with dental surgeon tomorrow (appointment, excuse me,) or this Valentines day hype, or first warm day in months. Most likely it is the combination of the first and the last ones. Because the temptation to check FB and e-mail, curiosity about special posts on favourite blogs, constant text messages from friends and lots of red around started to tire me out. With that being said – I will have allot of honest catching up to do later in a week.. And it is decided – cupcakes this evening. Not chocolate ones.
And the sunrise over quiet breakfast was the best part of the day.
I have to confess that I've been bitter for a couple of days due to all this valentines day excitement :S and that sucks because I love valentines days even when I'm single. Thing is that THIS year my best friends are in relationships and I'm not. But to make my day God gave me 10 little munchkins (my students) to give me little lollipops and cards! It's not the same, for sure, but they made my day better π
Single~ This was the first Valentine's Day I actually have the joy and love of the Lord in my heart!! YAY!! V-IC-T-O-R-Y!! I wore red and a huge silver heart pendant and even gave out Christian Valentine's to my co-workers (they wanted to exchange Valentine's). I've waited for this day forever! Thank you Jesus! =) Usually I'm bitter, crying and inadvertantly call it Halloween!
As for plans…today, I celebrated Valentine's day at home with Snuggles, my four-legged Valentine and a lean cuisine meal! ;o) God is good.
I love Valentine's Day. My hubby and I go out to eat often so we like to stay in and prepare our own romantic candlelit dinner at home on V-Day. I surprised him with a Stone Crab dinner. I made a menu to go with it and on the bottom wrote Song of Solomon 6:3 I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine. He came home with a balloon, orchid (my favorite flower) and VS gifts. =)
The celebration continues today…it's my birthday so I take the day off and we're going out to my favorite restaurant for lunch.
I LOVE VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
I went to Medieval Times and walked down Beach Blvd till 12am!
