Now before we get started, don’t you dare judge my halloween costume (you’ll get premature wrinkles)!
All jokes aside, the question for many Christians around this time of the year is, “Do we celebrate Halloween?”
Hosea 4:6 states that people will be destroyed from their lack of knowledge. I want us to be educated on what scripture has to say about this topic.
Enjoy!
What documentary did you watch as a child? Would love to don more research.
It’s called Trick or Treat and it was super old school 🙂
Pastor Chuck Smith has a great one!!! You can purchase it at the Calvary Chapel Bookstore, or online.
Nice! So thoughtful and well said! Thank you!
Thanks Dawn!
Brilliantly well said! Let’s be the light In the darkness. We normally host the neighborhood get-together on Trick-or-Treat night so we can share community in a fun, family way and our kids still get to participate in collecting candy! Love you Bianca!! Xoxoxox
Thanks Barb! Love you.
Perfect explanation–thank you!
You’re so welcome!
I agree with you! My husband would rather we have 0 to do with anything halloween related, but i think its okay to do like fall festivals and stuff, where halloween isn’t idolized, but we celebrate “fall” and fun activities, while playing dress up :p my son is 5 and he tells everyone “We dont celebrate halloween, but we love fall!” haha!
As a closet LEGALIST, I love this.
I truly love your insight B! Thank you…. big warm hug
evelyn
Heeeeeey! Love that you’re still connected. Enjoy your week, friend.
Love it! I think we are soul sisters 😉
Well, I have a twin so we can be triplets ?
Oh, so good. I love your point how ‘we’ do participate in valentines without worshiping St. Valentine(I LOVE Valentines Day) My kids love to dress up, but we dress up like every day!! Why not! I want my kids to use their imagination and build creativity. We don’t participate in the towns celebration because too many people, children and adults, dress up as things that bring unwanted fear into our lives. 2Tim. tells us God does not give us a spirit of fear; so why would I want to encourage fear to come in our lives. The devil does a good enough job trying to trick our minds into fear even at a young age, I don’t want to help him out. I love your studies and devos! I was blessed to see you at DFL at the beginning of the month.
So cool!
You are wise Sophia..I mean Bianca❤️ My mamasita would send us off with pillowcases. We emptied them in the car so people would feel sorry for us for having no candy and give us more. My kids did the Harvest Fest thing… Gracias
Hahahaha! Pillowcases!
LOL- Someone on my FB just posted the Halloween video: http://youtu.be/jgLgWghivlQ
This was awesome!!
ED!!!!!! You’re awesome! Thanks for the love.
My husband has very strong, negative feelings about Halloween. I on the other hand don’t but do tend to find it all a little creepy (along with personally thinking it’s a big waste of time and money). Do you think that one could argue that the paraphrased idea of Jesus and Paul (in, not of, the world) means that to be “in” the world we go about with our lives the Halloween season, not celebrating but not hiding in our basements until it’s over and that being “of” the world might mean one does celebrate Halloween since pretty much our entire society does. There would be no difference between a believer and a non-believer in this instance. Interested if you have any thoughts along these lines. I do agree that it is a personal choice that we all need to come too and be able to hold to that conviction.
I completely agree. It’s personal choice. My issue is when people make a judgement and punch everyone who doesn’t agree with them. Uh, no way, Jose!
I love how you put this. People can be so judgmental on this topic. I have seen numerous people say if you dress up you must not be a good Christian. We have decided as parents we don’t take part in the scary part of Halloween. We let our three littles dress up and collect candy from family and neighbors but that’s it. They enjoy dressing up and seeing others dressed up as well. We have two (4 year old) dinosaurs and a (almost 2) lumberjack this year ?
Loved your message. Mucho amor y abrazos Bianca. Signing up right now
Yay!!
Thank you for this message. The way you explained the Halloween issue makes a lot of sense that me. I have 4 beautiful grandchildren and they LOVE to get dressed up.
Love it!
Grant everyone grace… Thanks!
Grace. Don’t we all need it? You’re welcome, Norma!
Great explanation, and I love your Sophia costume! ?
Thanks Cathie!
I can’t even tell you what thirsty ground this fell on today. My girl is so different from my boy… Hes never cared for Halloween. We just said no, and he was like ok, no big deal. Her though, She wants to be “Elsa” everyday… Once at Disneyland she told the Disney elsa that she (my girl) was the real Elsa… And then waited for her response. With this being said she was so excited about finally being able to dress up for school; counting down the days. And Today, I was like Lord have mercy! What do I do?? And no kidding, there you were. Thank you for helping me get a grip.
Hahaha! No problem, Ruby!!
Thank you Bianca for such a balanced view. My father was a minister when here on earth. We went trick or treating all the time and YES we received 20 lbs of candy. So often the imbalance of the Christian world is demeaning and limiting of our ability to be vessels of God’s light and love. Keep it coming girl!
AMEN! PS I can’t wait to meet your daddy in heaven.
Signed up for my devotional so. Thank you
WOOHOO!!
With all respect…
I am in the world but that does not mean I will do as they do just bc my kids want to participate . I have the light in me and I am separated from the world so they can see the light in me. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf2Packyvp8#
On the bright side, people are knocking at our door for a treat! Why not send them home with THE GREATEST treat – The Gospel of John, and yummy candy to boot! Happy Fall, B! From your family’s biggest fans out here in El Centro, Ca!!!
Hahahahahahah! My mom did the same thing 🙂
I love this Bi. We struggle with some of the things you mention. I think we have reached a good place. Thank you for our insight. Imma stay home tonight. ?
Enjoy it!
Yes I love this! My parents didn’t allow their children to partake in any thing Halloween related. I was so confused and didn’t understand why when everyone around me was celebrating, but as I grew older and grew in my walk with the Lord it all makes sense now. Totally agree with what you said. I don’t have candy to give, but I’ll always give some love!
I lucked out this year and I’m not at home!
Thanks for sharing Bianca.. and might I add being bold enough to address this topic. Halloween has been gradually adopted into Australian culture over the last 4 years, and needless to say it has caused so much confusion in Christian circles.. to celebrate or not? Thank you for addressing judgment & grace gives me clearer perspective on this x
