Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Slinky, Hamm, Mr. Potatohead and Mrs. Potatohead. Yes, I know all the Toy Story characters. No, I’m not embarrassed that I do š
While everyone is talking about Inception, I’m quite fine enjoying my family-friendly Pixar creations. Pixar blows me away with their ability to tell stories and bring raw emotion to a feature film suitable for the young and old alike [and all those in between].
As the girl who confessed she cried in Wall-E because it was a representation of Jesus Christ giving himself for humanity, you’d expect me to parallel Toy Story 3 to some biblical theme, wouldn’t you? Annnnnnd of course I did!
The script was Mosaic in nature. Woody, the leader who was loved by Andy, represented Moses who led a motley crew of people for years through situations both good and bad. He gave careful instructions and tried convincing his tribe they were loved and cared for. But alas, they didn’t not believe. Woody sacrifices his own comfort and safety to make sure the group gets where they need to be.
And the story would be beautiful if it ended there. But it doesn’t. Without ruining the movie, I will say that I had no clue the plot would take the turn it did in the final scenes of the movie. I cried. In fact, I cried like Big Baby cried in Toy Story 3, complete with the whimper and the saggy left eye [I’m a bad crier].
What movies do you recommend and why? I just got Netflix and I’m ready to make my $9.99 a month worth it!
No shame in admitting that you cried…I did too! I think more so because I was picturing my children leaving the nest…college…etc. But also because the first one came out when I was a junior in high school…made me feel old! ha!
Anyway, I have many favorite movies…we just saw Despicable Me over the weekend I really liked it. But the one we watch often at home is The Ultimate Gift. That movie ALWAYS makes me cry!
u know I cry for everyhting…so I just watched despicable me and of course i cried…i cried in walle…i cried in up….i cry in all sorts of cartoons…yes it's quite ridiculous…but I do have a tender heart (although it does get annoying sometimes)…
i know u have seen Up..
Book of Eli is awesome…
Me and my kids LOVE the avatar: the last airbender series…(haven't seen the movie, we will, although we have heard some bad reviews from a fan standpoint)
Ponyo is soooo cute, as well as Spirited Away…(taking the movie for what it is and not focusing on the sprititual)
I loved Alice in Wonderland
When How to Train a Dragon comes out, it is so good…
I know all these movies seem kid oriented, but that is my life at the moment…I hardly get a chance to watch a grown up movie…
I lurrrrrrrrrve Spirited Away!
isn't it soo good:)
my kids got me into the japanese animation…so we've rented princess mononoake, spirited away, ponyo, and howl's moving castle…waiting for my neighbor totoro and castle in the sky…
I grew up with Totoro. It's my favorite Hayao Miyazaki film!!! Also a huge fan of Spirited Away š
Just added the flicks to my queue!!! Thanks!
Girl, you got Jesus on the brain.
Although that's not a bad thing. š
I LOVE Netflixs!!! I was a member for 5 years and had to cancel my subscription once I became unemployed to cut on expenses. What I enjoy most about it are all the independent movies. Since they usually don't get a lot theater rotation it's nice to keep up on them. I really enjoy anything with Mark Ruffalo in it!! He's a good actor and easy on the eyes =)_
i cried too and i totally see the biblical parallels!!!!!
watch The Legend of Baggar Vance. you'll be a mess for days.
My movie favs:
Breakfast Club – Funny but AMAZING job by Hughes on how we allow stereotypes to segregate us.
Edward Scissor Hands – Peoples abuse of those who are different, use them for their gain but toss them out as devils once done with them.
Good Will Hunting – Beautiful story on how we don't learn to think for ourselves
Saving Private Ryan – Amazing story on leadership and fulfilling a role even though you never wanted it
Legends of the Fall – Still trying to figure out this one, is the focus on time and its affect on a family, a father's attempt to protect his family from society, or a man's unwillingness to conform. ???
Cinderella Man – a man's fight to step up and be a man and keep his family together in spite of adversity
Left Behind – Because I figured I had to put down at least ONE Xian movie…don't think I saw this tough!
Yep… Edward Scissor Hands is AWESOME. š
We recently watched Iron Giant, an animated film (1999?) w/Jennifer Aniston. I cried. At one point, my 4 year old got teary and said, "Mom, he's just like God and Jesus?" b/c the main character (the iron giant) sacrifices himself. Great film for biblical parallels and discussions w/kids.
I have Iron Giant on VHS and just watched it a couple weeks ago. Definitely an all time favorite!
this movie is so good..and i probably cried…
THE BOOK OF ELI
never expected the ending… felt convicted
c u l8tr!!
Thank you for redeeming the movie for me. Apart from El Buzz going Spanish and Gypsi Kings singing, "Hay Un Amigo En Mi" I was not too thrilled. My take on it, it was a bit scary for being a Toy Story movie. THANK YOU (yes, I'm yelling it to you) FOR YOUR INSIGHT!!!!
Netflix:
Monsoon Wedding (Indian Film)
Brokedown Palace (clair Daines)
Chocolat ( Juliette Binoche)
The Crew (Richard Dreyfuss)
The Glass Bottom Boat (Doris Day)
J'adore Chocolat mais c'est à cause de Monsiour Depp….
Home Alone and Home Alone 2. It plays at my house at least twice a week. I Love Kevin. Oh and how about Pippi Longstocking. I always get a chuckle out of watching her. Anybody else agree?
My husband and I just signed up for Netflix this month and absolutely love it!!! We have definitely gotten our money's worth. Like Christy who commented above, we thoroughly enjoyed and loved AVATAR:THE LAST AIRBENDER Cartoon series. At first I wasn't too excited about watching a cartoon series, but boy was I wrong. It has great characters and the writing is incredible. A MUST SEE!!! š Also, I know I'm a netflix newbie but I've got some recommendations.
Anjelah Johnson: That's How We Do It (I think you'll find her hilarious, if you don't already know her. Big ups-she's a christian!)
Meet the Robinsons (A wonderful disney movie that will tug those heart strings! It's also got a great moral. An overall awesome kid movie!)
Food INC. (If you already eat organic good for you! If you don't you may want to think twice before watching this movie. lol)
Julie & Julia (Recently watched this movie and thought it was an overall good solid movie. A great date night movie!)
Hope these suggestions help you on your new Netflix endeavor B!
Many blessings, Jadine
I enjoyed Julie & Julia but hated the ending. I'd watch it again though!
Well it's a true story : / and for the record Julie and Julia never met!!! Crazy right???
Yeah I know… and the phone call scene where Julie thinks she might get to meet her breaks my heart. Love that she keeps goin' though! Makes me want to learn to cook, but alas, culinary skills are not on my list of fortés.
i love meet the robinsons…we have that one too!!! (cried)
Isn't Avatar the Last Airbender great? =D I love shows like that that are made for kids, but have surprises tucked in there for older people to enjoy. I think Veggietales and a lot of the Pixar movies are like that.
Do you like crying? Because I'll admit that I do, I love feeling emotion that is tied to someone else's (make believe) life instead of my own!
-Million Dollar Baby
-How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
-500 Days of Summer
-Like Water For Chocolate
-Amelie
-The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
-The Kite Runner
-The Land Before Time (I've been watching this since I was 5 and I. Still. Cry.)
Bella.
it's a MUST MUST MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it's on Netflix instant play… i just signed up for it too, and am trying to get my 9.99 worth… and so far, so good.
i can't wait to see TS3. and i'm pretty sure i will cry to, i'm a bad crier and i cry at a lot of movies. š
Yes! Bella is a beautiful movie, not to mention Eduardo Verastegui is oh so easy on the eyes! Gotta add "Bajo La Misma Luna" to the list too! You and Bianca will love it, promise.
I have been waiting to see Leap Year, and I was finally able to see it last week. It is so good; a total chick flick. I like the fact that this movie was geared for adults, but children could be in the room without fear of nudity. I love it when the movie is good as well as clean. It is rated PG. I don't know if there was any bad language since we have a TV guardian for that.
Hahaha! I cry a lot at movies too! š I haven't seen very many recent movies, of course I love The Blind Side. So that would be great to netflix. Another good post as always!! š Have a really great evening!!
I cried during Wall-E, too. Not cool since we were out with our "cool friends." š
Best movie EVER… hands down… nobody better disagree with me: Sound of Music. š
Hey, I cried watching Toy Story 3 too, with no shame! I also cried during Up! I'm a "movie-cry baby" anyway, but nothing like a good Disney movie to make you cry.
I also saw Inception, and I will say, it was awesome!
As for Netflix movies, I recommend: Fireproof (I will FORCE my future husband, whoever he may be, to watch this lol), Bride Wars, 500 Days of Summer, The Book of Eli (I haven't seen it, but it's on my list), and definitely Princess and the Frog if you haven't seen it yet.
The Fall – this movie is a little gory (not sure if i spelled that right..)but so incredible. I'm pretty sure it's like an indie film, but so great. They filmed it over four years in 18 countries! The picutre is beautful and the story might make you cry too, it's intense…and the little girl is SOO cute! So…needless to say, you should watch The Fall.
A Little Romance – with Diane Lane I had a huge crush on her when I was younger because of this movie. If you haven't seen this
one yet, I'm sure it will make you cry.
My Bodyguard – Very good and one of the most underrated 80's movie. Matt Dillon's first movie.
The Right Stuff – Testosterone squared!
Cocaine Cowboys – One of the most fascinating documentary's ever made!
A Face in the Crowd – So relevant in regards to what's going on today and Elia Kazan directed it.
omg, i have the ugliest cry-face EVER! bah! it's bad, i tell you.
and evidently i am the worst christian ever because, while i definitely can see the connection now that you point it out, i just thought it was a funny movie. the turn you mention in the end DEFINITELY made me cry, though. and, omg, Big Baby! i laughed HYSTERICALLY when we first met Big Baby! holy cow! so creepy/funny!
thank you for your pixar-theology and the reminder to watch through spiritual eyes and to pay attention with our hearts.
xo
oops! forgot to answer the question…
movies that have *really* affected me (like, i can't stop thinking about for days):
the spitfire grill
8 seconds (i know -strange- but watch it and you'll get what i mean)
untamed heart
factory girl (dark & sad, if you like that sort of movie)
the hours (see remark on 'factory girl')
big fish (far & away my favorite movie ever for all the deep and not-so-deep reasons that anyone loves a movie)
and then two that i love that are lighter but still poignant:
return to me
sliding doors
and then, of course, my standby's:
casablanca
breakfast at tiffany's
an affair to remember
I also saw the parallels too…especially when Woody told Lotso Bear, "but I do belong to Somebody!" Take that Lotso Bear with your existentialist rhetoric!
That is so awesome! I hadn't thought of that analogy, but it's so true! =D
I know what you mean about Inception ^__^; Too many people talking about it, makes you wonder… I was surprised it was rated PG13, it being so popular! =P If anything, I think it's a mind-blowing picture of the dangers of self-deception, and how one can get wrapped up and completely trapped in a world they've created for oneself, a world of sin and lies and selfishness, where's you are your own god. In that sense, it was pretty unsettling. But I did like it.
What a lovely day for a 1917761! SCK was here

One thing I would like to touch upon is that weightloss program fast can be carried out by the correct diet and exercise. An individual’s size not merely affects the look, but also the complete quality of life. Self-esteem, depressive disorders, health risks, and also physical abilities are disturbed in extra weight. It is possible to just make everything right but still gain. Should this happen, a problem may be the offender. While a lot food instead of enough work out are usually responsible, common health conditions and popular prescriptions may greatly add to size. Thanks for your post in this article.

Things i have generally told people is that while looking for a good on-line electronics store, there are a few factors that you have to remember to consider. First and foremost, you should make sure to find a reputable plus reliable retail store that has obtained great opinions and rankings from other customers and business world leaders. Good pointsā¦I would note that as someone who really doesnāt comment to blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I donāt think the term ālurkerā is very becoming to a non-posting reader. Itās not your fault in the least , but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy just reading the posts.
