A couple days ago my blog went down. Okay, okay, I know global warming is ruining our environment, our nation is in a recession, and the cast from Jersey Shore are busy making our country look bad, but to me the last thing I needed was to get an email from my web server stating I’ve been blocked from my domain.

Apparently there are 708,325 comments on my server. Hold up! I said to the nice GoDaddy.com guy. How can I have 708,325 comments on my blog when there are like 3 people who regularly comment? Besides, I continued on, how can I have those comments if I don’t see them on my server?

There are three lessons I learned during my hour long conversation with the GoDaddy guy:

  • I know nothing about technology
  • I have hours of manual work to do to fix my blog
  • I can safely say spam is nothing more than a version of sin.

Spam = Sin

When I logged onto the administrative section of my blog I discovered thousands and thousands of comments from pharmaceutical companies. I don’t know what I write about on the blog that make companies think I need Xanax and Phendraphine, but apparently they think I’m too wired and need to lose weight.

The funny thing in all of this was that I didn’t know all this garbage was there. I was oblivious to the layers and layers of comments covering my site and spamming the server. Similarly, sin creeps in, tells us what we think we need, covers us and before we know it, we’re broken down while ERROR flashes for all to see.

It’s embarrassing really. On both levels.

How can we prevent this? Well, simply by doing the manual labor of checking out all areas of our site… or self. Delve deep into what is covered and you might just discover layers and layers of spam. Don’t get shut down!

You’re welcome. πŸ˜‰
