After a year and a half of marriage
Me: [alone in the closet past midnight reading the last book of the Hunger Games trilogy] I can’t believe it ended! I can’t believe it ended. I can’t believe it ended… [crying commences]
Bianca: [crying in bed]
Matt: [wakes up] What’s wrong?! What happened?
Me: Oh nothing.
Matt: Bianca, it 1:00am and your sobbing so hard the bed is shaking. What happened?
Me: I feel if I tell you won’t care or you’ll think I’m crazy…
Matt: What’s wrong? I’m here to listen.
Me: Well, I finished the Hunger Games trilogy and I just can’t believe it ended. Peeta was the most amazing man and, I mean, I saw two people fall deeply in love and fight for each other and beat the odds and Β I feel… I just feel so…
Matt: [silence]
Me: I feel so…
Matt: Zzzzzzzz… [snoring]
After a year and a half of marriage, my love affair with fictional characters and great story lines is the best antidote for inducing sleep of my spouse. π
The more I read, the more I love Matt!
Bahaha! I had nearly the same reaction, but instead of crying, I wanted to throw my Kindle at the wall. More! We need more!
I know!! I’m overcome with despair! More books! More Books!! π
I had the same reaction, Bianca. π
The worst part about this WHOLE story is that ultimately comparing Peeta Mellark to my HUSBAND. Yes, a fictional character to a real-life human being who is flawed and imperfect, but loves me and is great provider and friend. I have SERIOUS issues. Ugh!
guuurrlll!!! i’ve been there!! oh peeta!! it’s hard to not compare such unconditional fictional love to the real love in our lives! in the end, i’d still choose my fiance though (:
I cried too!! It was a great trilogy and was bummed that there could be like 100 Harry Potter books but only 3 of the Hunger games. I hear the movie is going to be good.
Hahahaha this is so entertaining! I cry really hard when a book series ends too. My future husband has so much to look forward to. π Love you B!
I completely relate! I’ve been married for 6.5 years, and my husband still doesn’t understand how I can get so involved with fictional characters. I feel like I’ve lost friends when I finish Harry Potter, every time. And I felt the same way when I finished The Hunger Games! It’s crazy, I know. But I refuse to give it up. I’ll keep reading these wonderful books, and maybe someday he’ll understand… :o)
Sounds about right! Gotta love Matthew!!
Oh my word. I think I just had a heart-attack. You wrote a comment?!?! WHOA!!!
Oh man! I better enjoy the attention I get from my fiancee now before it all ends. :/ lol love your blogs!
My wife and I read ‘Mockingjay’ at the same time. I read the first book of the trilogy and told her she HAD to read it, too. Mind you, I make sure not to tell my wife she HAS to do things, but this imperative was essential. She’s actually an audiobookphile and it was a bit tricky for me to keep pace with her listening on audio book. I’d get to a part in the novel, slam my fist on my desk, and yell out, “Are you *bleeping* kidding me, Suzanne Collins?!?!” My wife would look at me and simply state, “You got to the part where _____ happens, didn’t you?” It was a thrilling – and emotional – ride for the both of us, but one we shared together. Not sure it Matt is a reader, but I suggest you both dive into a wonderful novel together. I found it’s opened so many new doors of conversation between my wife and me. (Except where we both adamantly disagree about the ending.)
GIL GONZALEZ, YOU’RE MY NEW BFF! First off, I love that you admitted to reading the book. Secondly, you read the book with YOUR WIFE (major cool points). Third, what did you argue about the ending? If you’re a Gale fan, I may sever all ties with you. π
Javi and I did the same thing he is talking about with Twilight. Javi read the first one and told me I HAD to read them… but he was always one book ahead of me. I haven’t gotten him to read the hunger games yet but I was literally laughing out loud when I read this because I did the SAME THING! I wasn’t in the closet… I was sneaking around the house and sometimes even in the bathroom. And was soooo sad when it was over!!!
Bianca,
First, let me add this for anyone who still may be reading the books: **SPOILER ALERT**
Thank you for kinds words. My issue with the ending is that it felt very rushed and abrupt. After three books of Peeta expressing his love for Katniss and ALLLLLLLL they’ve been through, I feel is was just too …. simple as to how they came back together. I have a couple of questions, too, that I feel went unresolved (Was Snow telling the truth about the bombs? Was Peeta totally ‘fixed’?, etc.) …and yes, as the guy who would be a millionaire if he had a nickel for every time a girl told him she liked him as ‘a friend’, I am a fan of Gale.
Tell your husband to get on the bandwagon and start reading. Only 65 days until the movie comes out.
well that’s crazy.
because the EXACT same thing happened last night.
except I had just finished “heaven is for real” in the afternoon and was bawling my eyes out in bed last night because it was so beautiful and I want heaven now even more. my hubs freaked out and I told him and he smiled, said ‘I love you’ and went to sleep.
we are twin emotional readers! cheers to good books. I have a feeling that when I begin the HG series next, I will have the same reaction. yet again.
Cheers to the weird girls who cry reading stories!!! π
Same reaction over here, lady. I think the worst part was the “hill with all the wild flowers growing on top”
I seriously started googling “books like Hunger games” just because I needed to satiate the gaping hole left after the series ended. ha!
Now, are you as bummed at who they cast for Peeta in the movie as I am? I just hope he does him justice. The perfect amazing Peeta.
π
i cried at the end as well and continue to get teary-eyed every time i reread the last few pages π
It’s so good to know I’m not the only one who stays up late to read a good book & can freely admit to sobbing at the ending π
This is funny and cute…I’m looking even more forward to starting this seris because I’m sure I’ll need tissues! LOL! Can you come to Chicago with Jasmine in March, plllleeeaaassseee!!?! =)
I love Gale. I just do.
I AM TEAM PEETA ALL THE WAY!!!!
I was testy eyed on Christmas day all day because I fin. The sereies that day b4 church!! I NEED MORE HUNGER GAMES! Suzzan Collins could write so much more for the hunger games J personally have a longing for more of the books! Don’t all of u?
I felt the same way when I finished! <3 Peeta <3
