One year ago I was assured that I would never lead youth again, never leave my comfort zone, and most definitely never go to Africa. Ever.
Days, weeks, and seasons passed and with every passing day I became more interested in seeing the world through a different lens. Somewhere along the lines, my heart ached for change. Not simply change for those who were lost—but change of my own heart and mind.
Comfortability didn’t matter as much as taking risks. Routine became painfully monotonous. Never was a word slowing disappearing from my vocabulary.
One year later I’m preparing to travel to the other side of the world. I believe God is going to do big things IN the city of Nairobi, Kenya. Better yet, I believe God is going to do impossible things… things I’ve never dreamed of in my life.
I’m terrified to believe such a bold statement, but this fear is propelling me to take a risk. A huge risk. On Friday, June 25th, our team of 24 (16 students, 8 adults) from different backgrounds, different stories, and different countries will come together to see lives changed forever. Half of us are from California, the other half are from Kenya, but together we’ll learn more about each other and the God we serve.
In ten short days we will:
- Build latrines for those without sanitation
- Empower and educate girls who have no future
- Share hope to those who are living in dire conditions
- Impact the next generation of Kenyan leaders by reaching local schools
In addition to this I’ve been given the opportunity to share twice while in Nairobi (once at Mavuno Church and again at a local high school outreach). This is the first time I’ll share outside American boarders!
More than anything, I want my heart to break for those are living in financial, emotional, or spiritual poverty. As a living witness of the transforming work of the gospel in Africa, I want to come back and share what I’ve seen so it’s contagious. I’m anticipating my worldview to be rocked. In turn, I intend to rock others view of the world! 🙂
I’m inviting anyone to join in this journey with the team and I. We are heading into an environment we have never been in before. We solicit your prayers and welcome you to join us as we blog and vlog our daily experiences.
Part of the process is fundraising 100% of our funds. I’m taking a step of faith and believing the funds will continue to come in through the remaining days. If you would like to follow the journey or donate, click on this website for a sneak peek!
