Daniel said it. Paul said it. Joseph said it. Jesus said it. And today, I repeat it.
But God…
A simple phrase. A phrase to thwart doubt, to stop fear, to control the uncontrollable is found from the beginning of the bible to the end. From Old Testament to New Testament, from yesterday to today, God remains the hero, savior, and friend.
We have sickness… but God.
We have troubles… but God.
We have brokenness… but God.
We are sinners… but God.
When Joseph came face-to-face with his brothers after years of separation and anguish and suffering for what they did to him and made him endure, he eloquently said, You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done…
David, in a moment of confusion and fear sang, My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Jesus, knowing the shady actions and nefarious heart of man, reminded the religious leaders of his time, He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts.
And Paul [my boyfriend and crush] gives the best words he could give to me, Dearest Bianca*, not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
I’m a sinner, but God forgives me.I’m a weak, but God is strong.
I’m an addict, but God can heal me.
I’m fearful, but God is peace.
I’m controlling, but God is in control.
Never forget the but God. With God on our side, we can do all things through Christ who strengths us. [Phil4:13]
What is the “but God” in your life? What areas has God been faithful or you believe he will be faithful in?
[*The “Dearest Bianca” was added so you know Paul wrote that for me as well as add some dramatic flair. Because really, who doesn’t love flair?!]
There are few phrases that can calm my heart and settle my spirit like the phrase “but God”. Powerful words. Powerful message.
The path seems uncertain, but God is in the lead.
God has been speaking to me along these lines recently, so when I read your blog post this morning, I had to smile. I love it when He repeats Himself. Thank you for sharing. It blessed me so!
Here is one of my favorites: “When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. BUT GOD showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:6-8, NLT).
YESSSS! My favorite as well
With two little ones, schedules and marathon training I have been so tired BUT God is my strength.
As a family we going through a hard situation. We are facing with new and hard decisions everyday and it can be frustrating and stressful not knowing if the decision was correct or not, if we should’ve done things differently. We don’t know what tomorrow may bring, but God is Sovereign!!
The words “but God” always brings me such hope and comfort. Two strong, powerful words! Love them!
I love this message! Very powerful and very inspiring. I can never thank you enough with your words. 🙂
I learned those words from my pastor at CCM..
BUT GOD… can do all things inspite of me..
God has used you to confirm things to me Bianca.
Thanks
I love this! Because in my life “but God” is usually said in my whiney voice as a response to something God is telling me to do. This “but God” has a totally different meaning! So the next time I start to whine “but God,” instead I will try to remember what comes after those words in the scriptures you quoted 🙂
Ooh, that’s good. =) I could use that reminder, too!
Thank you! This big “but” phrase is going on a Post-It as a reminder for me. They’re little words, but they have such a big impact. I’m so glad He’s a game-changer!
