Do you remember where you were the first time you experienced an earthquake? Maybe you’ve never had the wondrous experience of having the ground beneath your feet move wildly, but I TOTALLY remember a sunny morning in 1987 when my world was rocked. Literally.

Jasmine and I were asleep on our trundle bed when I was awakened by my mom’s shriek from the kitchen. I jumped out of bed and thought I was dreaming because I couldn’t stand up or walk. Having never experienced an earthquake before, I called out for my mom and dad, two very different people in stressful situations.

Mom: Dear God! Girls, get up, get up!! We’re having an EARTHQUUAAAAKKKKEEE!!!

Dad: Girls, calm down. It’s rock and roll time. No problem, just a rock and roll. Get under a door frame and hang on for the ride!

[I’m definitely my mother’s spawn because I’ve inherited her dramatics. Panic inevitably overtakes me and I faint from fear. During another California earthquake, I shot about of bed so fast I passed out on the tile floor of my bathroom and suffered a concussion. But I digress.]

If you live in California, you know where you were and how old you were when you first experienced a cosmic shaking. Similarly, if you’ve had an encounter with God, you can probably pinpoint the exact moment your understanding of God collided with an earth shattering encounter with God.

The end of our summer series is here and I hope and pray that we’ve all either encountered a living shaking alteration or an affirmation that we are living the way God has called us to. As we scour the words of Isaiah chapter six, I’m earnestly praying and begging God that he rock our worlds. I’m believing that we can leave tonight so affirmed, so confirmed, so assured that God reigns in our life and we have no option BUT to serve the holy, holy, holy God Almighty.

Hang on friends, it’s rock and roll time. It’s just a little rock and roll. πŸ˜‰
