“To read is to empower
To empower is to write
To write is to influence
To Influence is to change
To change is to live.”
~ Jane Evershed ~
I find home somewhere between the pages of books. As novelist Jean Rhys said, Reading makes immigrants of us all. It takes us away from home, but most importantly it finds a home for us everywhere. And since we all need places to feel like home, here are some books that will welcome you in.
- Xealots: defying the gravity of normality, Dave Gibbons. Gibbons shows us how God shapes us through pain and how our greatest failures may actually be God’s greatest gifts.
- All There Is, Storycorps, Dave Isay. NPR’s Storycorps hit the road and documented 75 love stories from everyday people. I love love so this is right up my alley.
- The Genesis Process, Michael Dye. For those dealing with addiction and control issues, this curriculum is amazing.
I actually just bought a book that i have barely started but i had heard an interview with the writer on Family Life…the book is called
Bonhoeffer:Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy
A Righteous Gentile vs. the Third Reich
written by Eric Metaxas
it sounded like a good biography type book…
Yes, Matt has this book and he’s almost done. He loves it! Let me know how it is ๐
Erix Metaxas (the author) is incredible! He was the keynote speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast earlier this month and if you have a few minutes and good cup of coffee, I highly recommend watching the speech. It was amazingly bold and such an encouragment to hear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgpvlSt_hGw
For physical/spiritual health: Run to win- Christine Caine
For our marriage, my hubby and I are reading together and it is slapping me up and down Brea gurrrrl:
Scared Marriage- Gary Thomas
For Growth: the Radical Cross – A.W. Tozer foreword by Ravi Zacharias
Run To Win: Enjoy it! I read it as well
Sacred Marriage: I want to burn it! Holy, not happy, right? Just kidding. Great read!
Anything Tozer: AMAZE!
I have a huge list of books I want to read but I’m rubbish at making the time to actually sit down and read. I should take a holiday.
I can’t wait to start reading Xealots. Thanks! REading the short description made me tear up a little.
Please tell me you HAVE READ ” The Cause Within Me”–right? right???
No, but given your response, maybe I should! ๐
My husband and I have been reading Real Marriage by Mark Driscoll at night together. We are almost 2 months into our marriage and are learning so much about each other. Mark’s book is helping us keep the right perspective and prepare for our future life together. We also read Jesus Calling 365 day devotional by Sarah Young. It speaks so perfectly to our situation almost daily; it’s incredible!
Thanks for sharing your reads! I’m adding Xealots & All There Is to my must read list!:)
I’m having issues with overeating and cravings. Do you think The Genesis Process will help?
Yes! I’m going through the class right now. When it’s done, I’ll give you the final verdict ๐
Great, thanks! xo
